Fourth of July Outfits

Have you thought lately why we celebrate Independence Day?  Well a bit of history for you.  It was in 1776 when the Continental Congress adopted the final draft of the Declaration of Independence.  Here in the south, we celebrate it, not only as a national holiday, but a day of summer.  A day to enjoy time with friends and family, eat the fruit of the seasons, you know hamburgers, hot dogs and fresh watermelon.  A day to get out and enjoy summer break and warm weather.

Speaking of the south, I read an interesting article on the months issue of Southern Living. It discussed the origin of one of my favorite summer fabrics, seersucker.  Invented in New Orleans back in the early1900’s, seersucker was made for men suites as the ultimate survival suite because it’s light weight and washable.  We have come a long way baby.

Take for example our seersucker dress above, yes it’s cool and refreshing, but also stylish.  Its wide collar, great for monogramming, accents the truly comfortable float of the dress.  The monogrammed bloomers to complete the ensemble… now that’s fashion.

With this outfit, don’t just limit it to the summer week of the Fourth, take in on through the summer.  With our weather, it’s as I’ve found out, perfectly acceptable to take your seersucker through Alabama vs. Tennessee weekend.

Happy Summer.
